2nd Strategic Dialogue on Social Protection
On 28 and 29 January 2020, the Second Strategic Dialogue on Social Protection in Asia-Pacific will be convened by UNESCAP and ILO at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.
The meeting will discuss the focus, analytical framework and direction of the Asia-Pacific Social Outlook 2020 – ESCAP’s regional biennial flagship publication, this year jointly produced by UNESCAP, ILO and UNICEF. The report will have a focus on social protection as an enabler for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The year 2020 constitutes an important landmark, with 10 years remaining for countries to implement the 2030 Agenda and reach its Goals and Targets. It marks a unique opportunity to assess the regional progress and remaining gaps on social protection, particularly coverage gaps and benefit levels, but also to analyze policy actions needed to ensure that the agreed Goals and Targets are achieved.
The report will be launched at the 6th Committee on Social Development in October 2020, as well as at relevant ILO and UNICEF events. The publication will offer an outlook for social protection in the Asia-Pacific region, based on country-specific contexts, opportunities and challenges.
