Accelerating achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific
High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)
10-19 July 2017, UN Headquarters, New York
ESCAP will present regional perspectives on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Asia and the Pacific, during the 2017 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in New York from 10 to 19 July 2017.
The high-level gathering is the primary global forum for reviewing successes, challenges and lessons learned on achieving the SDGs. Forty-four countries are expected to present their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) this year, and discuss a wide range of goals from ending poverty and hunger to strengthening partnerships.
United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCAP Dr. Shamshad Akhtar will present Asia-Pacific perspectives at a series of sessions and ESCAP-led side-events, with an emphasis on the recently- adopted regional road map for implementing the 2030 Agenda.
The road map lays out priority areas, implementation arrangements and a process for tracking progress on the SDGs in Asia and the Pacific, in the areas of social development, disaster risk reduction, climate change, management of natural resources, connectivity and energy.
ESCAP will also launch the Asia-Pacific SDG Baseline Report on Monday 10 July. This new report establishes a baseline for the SDGs by assessing regional progress since 2000 to illustrate the development gaps that need to be addressed if the SDGs are to be achieved by 2030.
