ESCAP High-level side event at 73rd session of the General Assembly - Promoting women’s entrepreneurship in Asia-Pacific,28 September 2018
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will hold a high-level side event on innovative financing to catalyse women’s entrepreneurship in Asia-Pacific during the 73rd session of the General Assembly on 28 September in New York.
Promoting women’s entrepreneurship is an important driving factor for women’s empowerment, yet women continue facing barriers in access to finance. Innovative financing mechanisms, such as women’s bonds and FinTech solutions confront challenges and foster ingenuity, particularly in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on gender equality (SDG 5), decent work (SDG 8) and innovation (SDG 9).
The event will feature a High-level panel discussion on the opportunities, challenges and potential for scaling up action-oriented frameworks for the benefit of women entrepreneurs in Asia-Pacific, followed by an interactive dialogue to share knowledge and connect innovation communities.
The event will also launch a new ESCAP-led initiative to advance women’s entrepreneurship in Asia and the Pacific. Global Affairs Canada provides financial support to ESCAP for this new initiative.
