Launch of the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2018
13 December 2017, 11:00am, FCCT, Bangkok
World economic growth has reached its highest level of growth since 2011, according to the 2018 World Economic Situation and Prospects Report (WESP), which will be launched regionally in Bangkok on 13 December.
Forecasts indicate continued growth in most regions in the coming year, offering policy makers greater scope to address some of the deep-rooted issues that continue to impede more rapid progress towards sustainable development: strengthening the environmental quality of economic growth, making economic growth more inclusive, and tackling institutional deficiencies that hold back development.
The WESP is the United Nations’ flagship publication on expected trends in the global economy, produced annually by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the five UN regional commissions and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Speakers at the Bangkok launch will focus on the WESP 2018 regional outlook for East and South Asia, and the Thai economy.
