Support to Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have galvanized political support for global efforts to end poverty, reduce inequalities and take action to mitigate climate change to ensure prosperity for all. Asia and the Pacific as a whole has achieved considerable success with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly in reducing income poverty, however various development challenges still remain for the countries with special needs (CSNs).

ESCAP have initiated a new analytical report to review progress in the CSNs towards the SDGs. The Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report, among others, aims to inform policymakers of their country-specific pathways on progress towards reaching SDGs through sharing of national, sub-regional and regional policy experiences. The analytical framework(s) and country-specific information would ultimately contribute to efforts aimed at adapting the 2030 Agenda into their national context, including through innovative policy initiatives, and institutional reform.
